Koh Larn from Pattaya: Ferry, Speedboat or Catamaran?
Updated October 24, 2026 · 5 min read
Take the public ferry if you want the cheapest independent beach day; choose an organised speedboat day if transfers and activities matter; choose a catamaran for the boat day itself. These are not three speeds of the same product. They create different days.
Ferry: freedom at the lowest cost
Public boats leave Bali Hai Pier for Koh Larn. Schedules and landing points can change, so check the board at the pier rather than relying on an old online timetable. The ferry suits travellers who are comfortable arranging the onward ride from the island pier and choosing a beach themselves.
Its drawbacks are queues, fixed departures and no pickup, guide, lunch or activity equipment. Leave margin for the return: the last boat is not a connection to gamble with. Cash is useful for local transport and small purchases.
Speedboat day: less organising
The Koh Larn and Koh Sak day with water activities lasts six hours and starts at €23.50. Its description lets you choose among activities such as parasailing, snorkelling and jet skiing with help from a guide. Check the option carefully: “available” does not always mean every activity is included in the base price.
The listing does not say which boat is used; speedboats cut the crossing time, but the ride is noisier and more exposed to chop. It works best when your priority is fitting water activities into one day rather than spending hours on one beach.
Catamaran: the voyage is the experience
The leading three-island catamaran trips last about 7.5 hours and begin around €71. They include a Thai buffet and advertise snorkelling, fishing and time to relax. They head for what the listing calls hidden islands rather than functioning as transport to Koh Larn; check the route of your option.
That makes a catamaran poor value if you only want to reach a beach, but good value if you want a full day aboard with food and several stops. Read the meeting-point and pickup details; “Pattaya” does not guarantee pickup from every hotel.
Which should you book?
Choose the ferry for independence and one beach. Choose the organised Koh Larn and Koh Sak day for a compact activity package. Choose a catamaran for more space, lunch and a day centred on sailing. None guarantees glass-flat water or perfect visibility; weather and swell decide that.
Bring sun protection, water and a dry pouch. If you are prone to seasickness, ask a pharmacist or doctor before travelling rather than relying on a remedy suggested online.
